Senatorial candidate and Magdalo party-list Representative Gary Alejano formally asked the Philippine Coast Guard for permission so they can visit the disputed islands in the West Philippine Sea.
On Monday, Alejano showed his letter of request to the Philippine Coast Guard, asking for permission because they were barred during their last attempt visit in the Scarborough after they fail to ask for a permit.
Alejano said that they will visit the island to show that the Philippines is the rightful owner of the disputed islands.
“I trust that the clearance would also absolve any fishermen or groups of fishermen from any liability for assisting us in the said trip except if, during the trip, they performed unallowed acts contrary to established maritime laws which your office strictly oversees,” Alejano said in the letter
As of writing, Philippine Coast Guard is not yet giving a statement over the letter they received from Alejano.
Last week, Alejano attempted to visit the Scarborough Shoal together with other Otso Diretso Candidates but they were barred from entering the area.
